PANTHIBHOJANAM: A Story of Adaptation
Joseph, Anjana Treesa
English Literature
Literature, English, Adaptation
Adaptation, according to the Oxford English Dictionary, has a plurality of meanings and applications, but mostly alludes to the process of changing to suit an alternative purpose, function, or environment; i.e., the alteration of one thing to suit another. Adaptations are not new to our times. Shakespeare transferred the history of his culture from page to stage. Aeschylus, Racine, Goethe are all known to have done the same, retelling the old familiar stories to a new audience, using a new medium. Adaptations are a big part of the Western culture that they seem to affirm Walter Benjamin’s saying that “storytelling is always the art of retelling stories”. Here, I am attempting a reading of Panthibhojanam, a Malayalam short story by Santhosh Aechikanam, from the collection Komala, first published in 2006, and later adapted into a short film of the same title, by Sreebala K Menon. The story takes us through the mindscape of five young advocates (four women and a man).

subjective well-being (SWB); trait gratitude; gender; only-child; postgraduates
The purpose of the present study was to explore whether trait gratitude correlates with subjective well-being (SWB) among Chinese university postgraduates as well as gender and only-child differences in the mean scores on measures of SWB and gratitude. A sample of 50 Chinese postgraduates participated in the research including the measurements of trait gratitude and subjective well-being. The findings indicate that gratitude was not associated with all items of SWB. However, the results find that gratitude was significantly and negatively correlated to negative affect, besides, satisfaction with life was positively correlated to the lack of deprivation and the gratitude to society. And the level of gratitude could be different in terms of gender and only child. The results indicate that female and not only-child reported higher levels of gratitude in comparison with male and only-child postgraduates respectively.

An Introduction of Scientific Survey of Francis Buchanan “Hamilton”

Hamilton, Francis Buchanan, literature
This paper devotes an introduction of scientific survey of Francis Buchanan ‘Hamilton’. Science is called the greatest triumph of the human mind over nature. Natural sciences focused attention on the investigation of the Indian environment and even placed Indians themselves towards scrutiny & their will themselves never be any great enthusiasm for belonging to a society which is not going forward, our culture is full of unformulated rules of conventional behaviour, and we have placed a perfectly absurd value on the ability to confirm to those rules & thus to preserve the whole system whose behaviour they are supposed to regulate. Just like that a Scottish physician Buchanan ‘Hamilton’ recognised for making significant contributions as a Geographer, zoologist, Botanist & as a historian while living in India.

body language, facial expression, semiotic analysis, Glorious Quran
This paper investigates body language expressions used in the Glorious Quran as a non-verbal means of communication and it is verbally expressed. It refers to emotions, feelings and intentions expressed by the positioning of the body in different ways, gestures, eye movement and facial expressions. The main goal of this paper is to examine the body language expressions namely facial expressions used in selected Quranic verses semiotically. Therefore, this paper employs Peirce’s theory of semiotics to interpret and analyze the facial expressions with reference to two kinds of people mentioned in the Glorious Quran: the people in the earthly world and the Hereafter. The findings reveal that the facial expressions in the selected Quranic verses provide a precise understanding to the inner feelings which may not be attained verbally. In addition, the emotion expressions range from full-face (darkened and whitened faces) to expressions that are partial-face movements. However, the most influential facial expressions are the emotions of the people of Hereafter.

Cognitive development, studentship skills, learning concepts, child development
Cognitive development alludes to the understudy's comprehension of ideas and the capacity to think and reason. While dialect invigorates intellectual advancement, dialect complexity impacts subjective capacities. The capacity to cooperate with others while utilizing dialect offers understudies some assistance with developing psychological aptitudes. Understudies who are hard of hearing or deaf have the same ability for intellectual improvement as do understudies with ordinary hearing.

Education Management
Learning Mathematical Concepts, Problem Solving Skills, Secondary School Pupils
Mathematics with all its branches plays an important role in everyday life. It is created to investigate the whole range of knowledge. Learning mathematics is basically a constructive process, which means that pupils gather, discover, create mathematical knowledge and skills mainly in the course of some social activity that has purpose consequently mathematics classroom instruction should move away from the information transmission model. Meaningful and authentic context should play a crucial role in mathematics learning and teaching, therefore, we need an integrated approach to mathematics teaching.Problem solving is an integral part of developmental activities and provides opportunities for children to practice what they have learned by applying their learning situations. The amount of practice needed by any learner is reduced if he understands the concepts and skills to be practiced. How can we make our students good problem solvers in mathematics? This is possible only when we make mathematics education more meaningful and interesting. Mathematical abilities like logical thinking, rational reasoning, concentration of mind, orderly presentation, precision and accuracy, analytical and inductive skills, and above all general problem solving abilities. So the present study is intended to learning of mathematical concepts in relation to problem solving skills among secondary school pupils.

A Literature Review on the Research and Development of Chinese and Western Re-translation
Xu, Xinyi
Translation Studies
retranslation; reinterpreting; literature review; cultural communication
Retranslation is one of the most important and controversial concepts in the history of translation. Although the definition of retranslation in different historical periods is different, more or less having a certain extended meaning reflecting the social and cultural background at that time, but the debates on “ancient and modern”, “accuracy and inaccuracy” and “literary and quality” produced by and around this phenomenon has promoted the further development of translation theories. With the frequent and increasingly diversified cultural exchanges brought about by economic globalization, the concept of “retranslation” has not only been eliminated by the times, but also has a new charm because of its characteristics of “overall problem-based research path” and “moving forward in a controversial pattern” (Gao, 2016a). As Gao Cun (2016a) said, “In the history of Chinese literary translation, the phenomenon of retranslation, which can be considered as the retranslation of the same literary works by different translators, is universal.” This paper is mainly divided into four parts, in which the body part is roughly classified in terms of chronological order, spatial order and different kind of viewpoints to present and discuss the various disputes and the development process and trend of retranslation.

Students' Level of Financial Support Satisfaction Towards Their Daily Allowance
Jerald, Moneva
Marijune, Tuñacao
Education Management
Daily allowance, Financial support, Satisfaction, Debts and Liabilities
The purpose of this study is to determine the association on the students' level of financial support satisfaction and their daily allowance. The study used a quantitative approach-descriptive correlation using a self-made questionnaire that was answered by the senior high school student. The questionnaire mainly indicates the different ranges of school allowances and factors that influence the students' satisfaction. The weighted mean was used for computing the mean of the level of financial support satisfaction that students feel towards their daily allowance. It used the chi-square (x²) showing a significant association between students' financial support satisfaction and school allowance. Students' financial support satisfaction depends on the level of their daily allowance. Most of the students have the ranges forty-one to fifty pesos as their daily allowance. With this, students are satisfied with their daily school allowances. The students seem to have a peaceful mind in their financial life because of meeting financial obligations with fewer debts and liabilities. A student who manages well a financial resource leads to lesser debts and liabilities which tend to increase the level of financial support satisfaction. Furthermore, a financial support satisfied student is more confident, tolerant and less prone to stress for having improved individual well-being. In order to enhance budgeting skills and increased level of financial support satisfaction, this study suggests exploring more on the students who are making debts at an early age.

word stress, word production, word perception, acquisition of parameters, metrical phonology, Iraqi learners
This study investigates the acquisition of the parameters of word stress production and perception by 10 Iraqi learners of English as a foreign language (EFL). It aims at investigating Iraqi learners’ difficulties in resetting the parameters of word stress production and perception in L2. Two experiments are conducted to test the learners’ production and perception of word stress in isolation and in sentences. The first experiment is the production test and the second one is the perception test. The learners’ responses of word stress in both experimental tasks are elicited manually and analysed according to [7] model of metrical parameters which is used to investigate the acquisition of parameters of word stress production and perception by Iraqi learners. The findings reveal that Iraqi EFL learners are able to reset the parameters of L2 but even though they failed in resetting all the parameters completely. Besides, the learners used more ranking level kinds of the parameters in the perception task than in the production task which may cause Iraqi learners assign wrongly the word stress placement.

Anglican Church, Children education, Developmental characteristics, Sunday school
This paper extensively presents the theme of Christian education with a focus on the Sunday school children in Kenya. The author reviews the developmental stage characteristics of the Sunday school children of the Anglican Church to express the aspect of child Christian education in the contemporary society. While Parents are entrusted with the primary responsibility of nurturing, shaping, training and equipping their children to be God-honoring, obedient, and productive members in society; this responsibility in the modern society has been passed on to secular surrogates who do the educating in their place. It is nonetheless still the key responsibility of parents that their children receive rightful Christian education. The study is limited to children between ages two to eleven years in the church Sunday school in a Kenyan context. More so, the guidelines in this study are limited to the Sunday school for the Christian education of children in the Anglican Church of Kenya with which the author is more conversant.

Peer instruction, Conceptual Physics, Problem-solving skill, ConcepTest, Academic performance
Fifty-two students of a college of education were sampled for this study. The sample comprises of thirty male and twenty-two female pre-service teachers. The quasi-experimental method was employed with the pretest-posttest design. Data were collected using Electromagnetism Physics Assessment (EPA). The data gathered were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), descriptive statistics and the independent T-test. The study provided an answer to three research questions. Finding reveals that based on the gender there was no significant difference in academic performance of the pre-service teachers who did not participate in the PI. However, there was a significant difference between male and female pre-service students who took part in the PI. The study has implications for the students teaching and learning of Physics.

Daniel Defoe on the Issue of Prostitution: A Critical Exploration of Roxana The Fortunate Mistress

Prostitution; Roxana; critical exploration; Roxana the Fortunate Mistress
Prostitution is said to be one of the world's oldest jobs. It is a social phenomenon with various root causes. Poverty, unemployment, and sometimes the necessity to do something to survive are some of the causes of prostitution. This activity is not without consequences for the practitioners. I have decided to critically explore Daniel Defoe’s Roxana the Fortunate Mistress to find out the reasons behind some women practicing such an activity. The study mainly focuses on the behaviour of the characters Roxana in the two novels. The main aim of the study is to put stress on the consequences of prostitution and draw the attention of the young generation on the dangers of prostitution and provide them with pieces of advice on the benefits of adopting decent behaviour. Based on psychoanalysis and feminism as literary theories, I conclude that prostitution is often linked to materialism and female greed.

“Is there life after death?”: In search of ‘After Life’ in Yann Martel’s Life of Pi
Rai, Indrani Singh
Literature Studies
Journey, Psycho-Neurobiology, Awareness, Emotional Equilibrium
The most awestruck question since the beginning of recorded history, perhaps is, ‘Is there life after death?’ It’s the eternal search of human soul on earth. Yann Martel’s novel Life of Pi enchants the imagination and wakefulness of the essential impulse of life. In fact, Martel captivates the readers with a stunning story-telling and explores an ‘awareness’ which perhaps cannot be known but felt only. The appalling combat with hostile nature for survival forces Pito castaway at sea. It is the calamitous extent to which creatures go after facing extinction but he comes back. The miracle which Pi experiences, is beyond religious inferences or scientific rationalizations. This paper tries to explore the metaphysical existence of human soul and its bliss through the understanding of NDE.

Role of the High School Teachers in Developing Values
Bharathi, A.
Education Management
Educational values, Social values, academic attitude
Value is such a code of conduct or the incorporation of virtue following which, man develops his personality and springs up being powerful and trustworthy in society. Values are guiding principles or standards of behaviour which are regarded desirable, important and held in high esteem by a particular society in which a person lives. Values are important for bringing desirable changes in an individual. The national policy on education (1986) calls for an emphasis on development of science and technology and the “cultivation of personal and social values” so that “the educational system produces young men and women of character and ability committed to national services”. Transmission of human values is to be made feasible by the pivotal role played by the teacher in the arena. Teacher is the right person to develop awareness and sensitivity of duties and values amongst the children. A teacher must succeed in conveying the larger ideals of service to the community, virtues of tolerance and respect for all faiths, the importance of character and the value of our heritage and culture. An efficient teacher aims at enlightening the minds and illumining the hearts of individual. Holistic development of a student is incomplete if moral values are neglected. As it is observed in the present times that immoral and antisocial behaviour is increasing among the students, it turns out to be a matter of great concern because decrease in moral values among school children greatly hamper the social fabrication and society as well. Education is knowledge based but values are not implemented now a days. So education should fulfill aims and at the same time inculcate values. Students are influenced by peer groups, parents, teachers and they learn certain values in an informal way. But the single largest influence on the student is the educational curriculum. The curricular requirements of the school should aim at not only imparting knowledge and language information but also a judicious combination of values that have a bearing on the future life of the students. The present study is an attempt to understand the role played by the high school teachers in developing values among students, at Narayankhed mandal, Medak district, Telangana state. 100 teachers randomly selected from 15 Government and private schools constitute the sample. An opinionnaire, with items divided under 5 major areas, is the tool used for administration. Scoring is done based on a two point scale. Percentages, mean, standard deviation and critical ratio are used for analysing the data.

A Comparative Study of Vijay Tendulkar’s Kamala and Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House
Gupta, Kanchana

Literature Studies
Vijay Tendulkar’s Kamala, Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House
Vijay Tendulkar is hailed as one of the most influential dramatists in India since the last forty years. He is a prolific playwright with twenty-eight full length plays, twenty-four one–act plays, seventeen film scripts, eleven children plays and a novel in Marathi language to his credit. Many of his plays have been translated into English and other Indian languages. One of his plays Kamala published in 1981 was originally written in Marathi. It was later translated by Priya Adarkar. The play exposes the hypocritical attitude of the society towards women. It draws attention towards issues like the flesh market, the condition of typical Indian women (as portrayal through the characters of Sarita and Kamala), the unsolved discord in the marital lives of Indian couples etc. It also brings to our mind Henrik Ibsen’s play A Doll’s House which was published in 1879. The similarities in both these modern plays are beleaguered by their male characters and lucid imagery but the virtuous female characters here undergo unrelenting anguish. Both present a story of abent husbands who want a wife to behave just like puppet irrespective of whether she is literate or illiterate.

Implication of Class-Based Assessment on Teachers: A Case Study
Ali, Feroz Mohammed
Iqubal, MD Asif
Education Management
Class-based assessment, Secondary school, Evaluation
In Fiji, assessment has always been guided by curriculum through examination and tests which merely enclosed students’ aptitude of recalling conception skills. Supplementary categories of skills like application, analysis, synthesis and evaluation are barely incorporated in the traditional appraisal. Some of the indispensable qualities are not included in the customary assessment system. This makes learners rely extremely on their memorization skill leading them to become helpless, deficient required excellence to contribute fruitfully to the society. The government of Fiji has a sensible vision for the stipulation of its education organization and has impartially arbitrated the Class-Based Assessment (CBA) aspirant for learners’ holistic development. CBA has been implemented in secondary schools in 2009, through a pilot project. This research reveals the current status of the implemented assessment scheme through a study of a group of teachers of secondary schools and CBA resource personnel’s from the Ministry of Education. It discusses the issues emerging from the arguments of the scholars regarding CBA and its potentiality in Fiji. Despite the popularity and wide acceptance of Class-Based assessment in the western countries and Fiji itself it has often been criticized for several reasons, most of them related to the utilitarian perspective and related ethical considerations. CBA seems to be very difficult to maintain within the stipulated time of teaching. It is difficult for the teachers to switch from summative assessment to formative one as it seems an extra assessment together with a final examination.

Implementation of Internship in 2 Year B.Ed. Course – A Challenge or Routine Task
Chakrabarty, Dr. Parijat

B.Ed. Course curriculum, Course designing, academic internship
In the recent years all over India there has been a drastic change in B.Ed. course. The switch over to one year course to two year B.Ed. course is quite interesting and challenging task. Any teacher education course seeks to train teacher having requisite teaching skills. Practicum approach adopted in the modern teacher education course is to place a student teacher in a classroom situation under the supervision of a qualified teacher. The concept of Internship introduced in the two year B.Ed. course throughout the country is quite challenging one for all the teacher education institutions. The aim of internship program is to incorporate teaching skills among the student teachers. Internship program is an effective way to give training to the student-teachers about real world of work. It give them an opportunity to integrate theory and practice, plan and deliver lessons properly, critically analyze their own and peers teaching styles and improve them in the light of feedback given by supervisors. Through this program they understand the role and responsibilities of professional teachers. Internship program also give them opportunity to understand different aspects of school program and improve their skills and abilities in teaching profession. An effective and improved internship program is required in developing student-teachers personalities as true professionals in field of education.

The Present Situation and Optimization Path of College General Education in the New Era
Ruan, Lulu
Education Management
General education, Implementation status, Optimize the path
An important part of the higher education system in the new era is the general education. With the deepening of undergraduate education reform, more and more colleges and universities have focused on general education. Our country has been practicing the professional education model for a long time, which has led to some problems, such as a deviation in the education concept, a slow integration in the education mode, and a narrow field of vision in the curriculum. The development of general education in colleges and universities in the new era should go beyond the traditional misunderstanding, recognize the importance of general education, make effective integration with professional education, make full use of its own unique ideological connotation and outstanding characteristics, and strengthen the effective linkage with professional education.

Education, Fertility, Population Growth, Poverty, Gender Disparity
Significance of education in the development process has been well recognized by the educational planners, economists and development planners the world over. Based on empirical evidences of connection between education and socio-economic development, this paper posits that education is instrumental in the socio-economic development. Specifically, this paper examines the impact of educational progress on fertility rate, population growth rate, child/infant mortality rate, life expectancy, gender disparity, poverty of the state. The analysis is based on information of the entire state on various variables such as literacy rate, enrolment, per capita income, fertility rate, population growth rate, incidence of poverty, etc. gathered from the secondary sources from 1966 onward. To sort out the strength and direction of relationships between education and various components of social developments, data have been analyzed by employing simple regression models. The findings show that female education at all levels has been found to be highly significant in lowering infant mortality. Male and female life expectancy at birth and at specific ages have been found to be positively related with enrolment at different educational levels. In line with the research conducted in different parts of the world, this study also confirms that increased female education at all the stages (i.e. primary, elementary, secondary and for all education levels put together) consistently lowers fertility rates. Our regression results show positive relationship between the progress of education at different stages and the gender disparity in infant mortality. Further, The poverty reduction effect of education has been confirmed from the inverse relationship of the educational progress at different stages of schooling with the incidence of deprivation (poverty).

Pollution and Other Dimensions of Non-Renewable Groundwater in Haryana (India)
Rahi, Avtar Singh
Environment Management
Groundwater, Stress, Industrial, Pollution, Contamination, Resource, Depleting, Problem, Drinking, Effects, Community, Investment, Water-based, Health
The vital role groundwater plays as a decentralized source of drinking water for millions rural and urban families cannot be overstated. In India, where groundwater is used intensively for irrigation and industrial purposes, a variety of land and water-based human activities are causing pollution of this precious resource. There are no estimates of the public health consequences of groundwater pollution as it involves methodological complexities and logistical problems. The groundwater behavior in the Indian sub-continent is highly complicated due to the occurrence of diversified geological formations with considerable litho-logical and chronological variations, complex tectonic framework, climato-logical dissimilarities and various hydro-chemical conditions. Once contamination starts, very little can be done to check it except a total ban on pumping. But this is very difficult, as millions of rural families in India depend on groundwater for sustaining irrigated agriculture and livelihoods. Manufacturing and service industries have high demands for cooling water, processing water and water for cleaning purposes. Groundwater pollution occurs when used water is returned to the hydrological cycle. Haryana is fast emerging as one of the most favoured investment destinations in India. The State has taken lead in terms of planned industrial and urban growth compared to neighboring States, which has resulted in development of vibrant urban and industrial complexes. They dump the wastes in the rivers which results in water pollution. Management of groundwater resources in the Indian context is an extremely complex proposition as it deals with the interactions between the human society and the physical environment. Unplanned depletion of non-renewable groundwater reserves can undermine and potentially erode the economic and social vitality of any community. Hence, there is need to plan the exploitation of non-renewable groundwater resources and guide their utilization with a view to making communities better prepared socio-economically to cope with increasing water stress as aquifer storage is depleted.

Kipchak Studies
Kipchak language, manuscript, Turks, ethnic realities
The purpose of our work was to analyze the ethnic realities of the Kipchak language in order to establish its similarities and differences with modern Turkic languages for which this medieval language was a proto-language. The written medieval manuscript in Arabic “Al-Tuhfa al-Zakiyya fi al-Lugha al-Turkiyyah” (Genuine wonder about the Turkish language) was one of the most important and most valuable source for studying the Kipchak language. The main feature of the work was that the original version was written in the Kipchak, as the anonymous author pointed out on the first page of the manuscript, stored in Istanbul, in the Beyazit state library. When studying objects that were far apart from each other in a temporary sense, such as medieval and modern languages, we used the comparative-historical method, and as a result concluded that in some cases there were only phonetic differences, while the syntactic and semantic commonality of lexical and phraseological units persisted. To classify ethnic realities, the statistical method of analysis was used. Ethnographic, cultural and mental realities testified to direct kinship and a single nomadic culture of the speakers of the languages of this group and provided an opportunity to restore the historical stages of the development of the Turkic languages from the Middle Ages to the present day.

Teaching-Learning Approaches and Strategies in Peace Education
Subramanian, Dr. A.
Education
Peace education, Role play, Problem-solving, Brainstorming
The “how” is as “important” as the “what”. Hence, the teaching-learning approaches that are compatible with the goals of peace education are holistic, participatory, cooperative, experiential and humanist. Holistic education does not confine itself to the parameters of facts and concepts. Instead, it promotes cognitive, affective and behavioural goals of learning. Often, the focus of learning is the transmission of concepts. In peace education, the goals are three-fold. First is the building of awareness on the realities, roots and consequences of violence, and the building of awareness on the roots of peace. Second is the building of concern and the development of the values of empathy, compassion, hope and social responsibility. In 2003, Harris and Morrison call it the development of moral sensitivity culminating in the building of the capacity of learners to care for others. Third is the call to action beginning with the resolve to change personal mindsets and attitudes and doing something concrete about situations of violence. Participatory education means allowing learners to inquire, share and collaborate. It allows learners to engage in dialogue with the teacher or with their co-learners. The practice of articulating and listening to diverse points of view is an important exercise in broadening perspectives. Such a skill is necessary in a world where many conflicts remain unresolved because of peoples’ refusal to hear one another. In participatory learning, teacher acts more as a facilitator rather than an authority figure. Even if teachers have definite stands on issues, they should encourage students to articulate their own perspectives before inviting them to take appropriate action on the issues discussed (Mcginnis, 1984). Participatory education also means veering away from the traditional indoctrination style. The observance of democratic processes in the classrooms can contribute to the development of knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for democratic citizenship (Harris and Morrison, 2003). Carl Rogers and Abraham Maslow are proponents of a type of education that is humanist. A humanist classroom emphasizes the social, personal and affective growth of the learners. In a humanistic classroom, individuals are accepted for what they are. It develops the notions of the self to promote a sense of self-esteem. It sends the message that all are valuable and gifted. Mcginnis (1984) says that “without a positive self-concept or self-image, no one takes a stand, ‘goes public’, or works for change”. He also posits that the more aware we are of our giftedness, the more willing we become to share our gifts with others. Teachers in a humanist classroom are empathetic and affirming. They show interest and concern for the well-being of their students. They encourage in the classroom care and respect for each other. They also encourage sensitivity to diversity in the classroom. Such approach will help breed in learners the seeds of love and compassion- values that are necessary in building a peaceable society.

An Analysis on EFL learners’ Emotional Intelligence, Academic Emotions and EFL Learning Achievement
Yang, Qian
Foreign Languages
Emotional Intelligence; Academic Emotions; EFL Learning Achievement
With the development of society, the influence of emotional intelligence and emotion on foreign language learning is receiving increasing attention from scholars. At the same time, with the development of positive psychology in the field of second language acquisition, the research on academic emotion is changing from negative emotion to positive emotion. A thorough understanding of the current research on emotional intelligence and foreign language learning emotion can enrich the relevant research theoretically and promote students’ positive emotions in practice. This paper reviews the development of the field and summarises the relevant theories, research content and research methods. Through an in-depth interpretation of the relationship between emotional intelligence, academic emotions and English language achievement, the paper proposes a vision of research that is complex in terms of research variables, diverse in terms of research methods, and diverse in terms of research themes, laying the foundation for further research.

How can education help in climate management- A contemporary review
Ali, Mohammad
Education
COP 21, climate change, environmental protection, education, role of education
This paper demonstrates that, by enhancing learning, imparting values, encouraging convictions and moving dispositions, training has impressive energy to help people reexamine ecologically unsafe ways of life and conduct. In this way, training ought to frame part of the arrangements proposed from the COP. The fruition of more elevated amounts of instruction does not naturally interpret into more mindful conduct towards the earth. Be that as it may, as the persuasive Stern Review on environmental change noted: 'Instructing those as of now at school about environmental change will shape and manage future approach making, and an expansive open and worldwide level headed discussion will bolster today's strategy producers in making solid move now'.

Intercultural Language Teaching; ELT Teaching Material
Review on the evaluation of English Language Teaching (ELT) materials has been carried out by many researchers. Focusing on the cultural aspect, the review covers the three important participants in a classroom setting - coursebook, instructors and students. The review aims to reveal the evaluation of the culture content on ELT materials, to explore and students’ attitude towards source culture and international culture teaching in English as Foreign Language (EFL) class as well summarize some strategies adopted by teachers in their teaching process to give inspirations to current EFL teaching. After analyzing the objects, methods and findings of Several empirical researches in a bottom-up method, this review found: 1) there is an imbalance of cultural representation in ELT textbooks between target culture, home culture and international culture; 2) students show a positive attitude towards home culture and international culture learning in the learning process; 3) teachers notice the importance to cultivate students’ awareness of their own culture and culture relativism consciously and take measures accordingly in their class.

Industry and Inferiority in School Children Enrolled through Quota for Weaker Sections and Disadvantaged Groups: An Eriksonian Perspective

Education Management
RTE, inclusion, identity development, EWS quota, education
A significant milestone in the landscape of Education in India was arrived at with the coming of The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009 (Ministry of Law and Justice, 2009). One of the highly debated provisions of the act has been that unaided private schools shall admit in class 1, to the extent of at least 25% of the strength of that class, children belonging to weaker section and disadvantaged group and provide free and compulsory elementary education. While it was hoped that the act would lead to radical transformation in the Indian school system and become an effective instrument for any child to demand their basic entitlement, it has been recognised that it is not sufficient to allow access. The implementation of the act will be considered truly successful only if it addresses the issue of making children of marginalised communities 'visible' within classrooms. This study is a qualitative exploration of the experiences of 8 children enrolled under the EWS quota in private unaided schools of Delhi NCR. Using a phenomenological approach, the interview data has been thematically analysed in the light of the stage of Industry versus Inferiority as outlined by Erik Erikson's psychosocial approach to identity development. The study reveals complex layers of experiences, some facilitative and some detrimental, indicating the need for careful planning and monitoring of implementation, as well as stronger teacher preparation for the creation of truly inclusive climate in schools.

The Student Teachers’ Experiences during Teaching Practice and Its Impact on their Perception of the Teaching Profession
Koross, Rachel
Education Management
Student teachers, experiences, teaching practice, Perception, teaching profession
Teaching practice is an integral component of teacher training in Kenyan universities. Teaching practice in Kenyan universities is organized in the schools of education and is mandatory for all students who pursue education. Students go out to real classroom environment for a whole term (approximately 14 weeks). This activity grants student teachers experiences in the real teaching and learning environment. This paper looks at the students’ experiences and its impact on their perception of the teaching profession and also assesses the challenges that students encounter while in the schools that they are attached for teaching practice. The sample was drawn from third year student teachers from the University of Eldoret who had done teaching practice. A survey design was used and a quantitative questionnaire was administered to 100 student teachers. The findings of this research indicate that students’ experiences had an impact on their perception of the teaching profession and they did experience challenges while on teaching practice. Based on the findings of this study recommendations are given on how to improve students’ perspective and challenges.

Effect of Parenting Styles on Student’s Behaviour in Public Secondary Schools in Nairobi County-Kenya

Public secondary schools, Parenting style, Behaviour, Discipline, Nairobi County, Substance abuse
Parents form the core unit of a family and are at the very basic in the growth and development of their children. This includes moulding the children’s behaviour at different stages of life. While studies have been conducted to establish what influence parenting styles have on their children, there is no consensus on how the behaviour of children is influenced by the method used by parents in bringing them up. This paper, therefore, is a result of a study that sought to establish the effect of parental styles on the behaviour of students in secondary schools in Nairobi County. Respondents were sampled from 60 public secondary schools in Nairobi County consisting of head-teachers, student counsellors and students who were targeted as respondents and from whom data was collected. The study established that students had been involved in indiscipline cases at least 1 to 3 times in the previous year. The study concludes that discipline and child behaviour will largely depend on the style of parenting adopted by the parents. While some parenting styles like authoritative promote good behaviour in children, others like authoritarian promote dysfunctional behaviours. Despite having money to pay for the students and facilitate their learning, the study found out that some parents did not spend time with their children hence increasing cases of indiscipline. The study recommends parents’ involvement in promoting good behaviour among their children both at school and at home.

Vivekananda’s View on Uplift of the Subalturn

Many great hermits throughout the ages have come of on the holy land of India. Swami Vivekananda is one of those who are especially notable in the field of eco-social, religious and history. He was born in a generous aristocratic “Kayastha” family in North Kolkata. From childhood Vivekananda was very gentle. He easily realizes the circumstances of dependent India. He gets the impression of India and its dignity in the history of mankind; the causes for that position and also whether it is necessary to change – where to start and what is the way. The main streams to culture history in India are – analyzing the relevant objects in traditional way, imperialist attitude, nationalist policy and recently the culture of lower classes history that begins in 1970s. The historians named Ranjit Guha, Partha Chatterjee, Gautam Bhadra, Gayatri Chatterjee, Dipesh Chaterjee et al are notable to initiate this kind of method. It is notable that the method is not very ancient. But Swami Vivekananda was enough to be the greatest in …….lower classes’ history in his own time. And it is no doubt that the method is popular and significant. It is my little effort to focus on Vivekananda’s thought for the development of backward classes. My effort is based on Vivekananda’s “speech”, writings, books, and letters and so on.

How to Improve Quality in Education Using EAP Approach of - COBI

Education Management
Education, quality education, teaching, instructions
Most engineering students today lack content in their subjects (technical & non-technical) and are unable to perform in the job place because of their haziness. Reports say that a majority of the engineering graduates in our nation find themselves extremely difficult to seek employment opportunities. These Engineering graduates lack content along with required skills for right employment. To improve the content and confidence, there exists a need for integrating quality into the technical education system especially in the English language laboratory because every aspect of employment process includes good communication skills. Laboratory is the only platform where a student can learn and improve many things within the academic schedule. The statistics of the AICTE reveals the facts that, with over 3,000 colleges in the nation churning out 14 lakh graduates annually, there tends to occur a dip in quality that can be overcome only with the parallel increase of facilities amongst other factors. To bring about well-rounded graduates with the right technical and language competence, colleges must adopt student-centered method of learning which should aim at developing learner autonomy and independence.

Policy and scope for practice of ergonomics in Agro Processing Industries in Kerala

Agriculture
Agree business, Agripreneurship, Agro industries
Kerala agriculture, over the last few decades has been facing multifaceted challenges, from the conversion of its green land-both wet and garden for the housing well as commercial purposes. The tillers of the land, to a large extent still remain only a producer of raw material in the sector. While the farm land productivity in rupee terms of Kerala agriculture is highest in the country with Rs.53,000/-per hector, the achievement of bottom level farmers still remain pathetic with all profits of value addition swept away by few agents in the industry. Why there is not much value addition done by the basic producers? The answer is clearly the lack of capital base and poor entrepreneurship in the unorganized sector. There are rays of hope in the activities of our new gen agriculture officers who are widely organizing production and marketing activities in rural areas, which may cater to the self-reliance needs of rural farmers. Above all, the most promising area is the value addition sector in agriculture. This includes sub sectors like dairy products and livestock products also.

Inquiry-Based, learning, Instruction, Junior High School, students
The study examined how Inquiry-Based Learning affects students' academic progress in science lessons and whether this approach can help low-proficiency users of English to comprehend scientific concepts. The study used a Quasi-Experimental design and looked at it through the lens of Self-Determination theory. The study included a total of 40 second-year Junior High School students from two distinct classes. The research was aimed at students aged between 13 and 15 years, and therefore, only students within that age range were selected to participate. Students in the experimental group received Inquiry-Based instruction, while the control group used traditional instruction. The study lasted for four weeks and was an experimental one. To see if Inquiry-Based learning is more effective than traditional teaching, a test with 20 questions was used as a pre-test and a post-test for both the experimental group and the control group. The results of the study showed that students who were taught using an inquiry-based method scored higher than those who were taught through a traditional technique. The main finding of this study is that students in the experimental group, who had a low level of English proficiency, were able to understand the lesson without switching to their native language to explain concepts.

Paradise Lost and Paradise Regained as Epics of Political Satire under the Guise of Spiritual Epics: A Critical Inquiry
Jayraj, S. Joseph Arul
Literature Studies
Satire, Biographical approach, Historical approach, Sociological approach, Reader-response
The paper points out the intention of ‘Satire’ and inquires into the biographical, historical, sociological, religious, economic, political and literary contexts of John Milton’s Paradise Lost (1667) and Paradise Regained (1671). It underscores the poignant example of John Dryden’s verse satire, Absalom and Achitophel (1681), which is modelled on John Milton’s political epics. It also traces the biographical, historical, sociological, religious, economic, political and literary reasons for the outbreak of the English civil war. Thus, it points out the mutual bond that exists between society and literature, and renders a historical reading of the literary works taken for analysis by exploring the possible purposes with which these texts have been written and the ways in which the meanings of these texts have changed over time owing to multiple interpretations.

The Romance of the Three Kingdoms, communication studies, communication effect
The novel the Romance of the Three Kingdoms (Sanguo yanyi 三國演義)stands out among the most famous and influential works in Chinese literature. It was read by readers from all levels of society from the Emperor down all over the world. At present, most researches of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms focus on its English translation and its communication in a certain country, especially concentrated in neighboring countries or regions surrounding China, such as Thailand, Japan and so on. In order to provide researchers with a comprehensive and systematic review about its spread and impact, this research intends to investigate the current communication situation of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms in various countries from three aspects of communication form, communication strategies and communication effect. Then it is found that the overseas communication of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms has diversified forms and various communication strategies, but there are still some deficiencies and problems in the process of overseas communication. In order to solve these problems, this paper puts forward corresponding suggestions from the perspectives of "communicator", "communication content" and "communication channel", with an aim to provide some reference for the overseas communication of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

The study intends to assess the level of the narcissism of students and the level of anxiety. Narcissism is an excessive admiration and unrealistic positive view of oneself and physical appearance. While anxiety is a feeling of having fear of what might happen that is usually experienced by the students. The study is anchored in the Cognitive Development Theory of Jean Piaget in 1936. He explained anxiety as the tendency to overestimate the potential for danger. This research study used the correlational quantitative design because it examined the association between the level of the narcissism of students and the level of anxiety. Using a rating scale questionnaire on the level of narcissism and the level of anxiety is the level of anxiety among senior high school students. The researchers found out that most of the students feel assertive. Also, they seldom like to be the center of attention which means of having a narcissistic personality which could affect the way they perform in school. Meanwhile, they also feel anxious of hearing the announcement of a coming test and reading the first question on final exam. The data gathered was treated with the use of statistical tests the weighted mean and chi-square. The study showed that there is an association between the level of narcissism and level of anxiety.

Analysis of Speech-Sign Semantic Equivalence in Simultaneous Communication in Kenya
Oracha, Adoyo Peter
Special Education
Educational Communication; Special Education; Child with Special Needs
Effective communication between teacher and pupil is a requisite factor for educational attainment. For the deaf, ineffective communication is a major problem especially when onset of profound deafness takes places at an early age before language is acquired. At school, the language of classroom communication not only affects the child’s development but also influences ability to learn other curriculum contents. Pointing out reasons for failure by deaf children to compete favorably with their hearing peers, Johnson et al (1989) has indicated that the central problem on deaf education is embedded in the lack of an appropriate language of classroom communication. For a long time education for the deaf was conducted through the oral approach. It was later realized that this oral approach did not avail curriculum content to the deaf learners. In the 1980’s Total Communication arose as one of the solutions. According to Adoyo (2004), Total Communication was misunderstood for Simultaneous Communication, a communication system in which speech and sign are produced at the same time (Lane, Hoffmister & Bahan, 1996). Although SC has been used in Kenya for all these years, it has not produced the predicated large-scale improvement. In this study, an attempt was made to establish the capacity of SC to enhance understanding and to facilitate information processing. The investigation was carried out through an examination of the extent to which the spoken and signed messages were equivalent in meaning. The research question was: To what extent do teachers of the deaf maintain one-one, sign to-voice ratio during Simultaneous Communication transmission and to what degree is the spoken and signed message equivalent semantically?

Cultural Confidence; China’s Stories; Middle School English Teaching
With continuous globalization, the relationship between language and culture has undergone new changes. English has become an international lingua franca and a means for communicators to express local culture in cross-cultural communication. Today, as different cultures are increasingly intertwined, China now needs to present itself and tell its story to the world, which is the call of The Times for mutual learning and common development among civilizations around the world. It is also a realistic call for building confidence in Chinese culture and educating people through political and moral education under the great changes that have never been seen in a century. Facing the new requirements of educational development in this era, English teaching in middle schools must undertake the mission of cultivating socialist successors who have an international vision and a sense of community of human destiny.

Love for the rails; Paul Theroux’s Travelogues

Travel, trains, social observation, cultural study
In Paul Theroux’s writings railways do not just provide a background or a theme, but become a functional and structural part of their plot and narration. For Theroux railways offer a cross section of a society. The references in his writings are interesting findings in cultural study. The co-travellers create a temporary cultural aura in the compartment. When the narrator involves in conversation with the co-passengers, he acts as a mediator between the readers and the native. A train is both mobile and stationary at the same time. It is mobile for it takes passengers one place to another, at the same time it offers the traveller a stable platform to observe and socialise. Stating the insignificance of destinations, Theroux invites attention to the ‘being in a train’ experience.

Portuguese, English East India Company, Fort St. George Madras, Seventeenth Century
This article mainly emphases with the Portuguese migrants at Fort St. George Madras and the policy of the English in containing the problem posed by the migration. Moreover, it also points out the reasons for the growth of Fort St. George Madras, particularly after the fall of San Thome and Nagapattinam and the attendant English response to the Portuguese migrants in Fort St. George Madras. For instance, the English encouraged and welcome the Portuguese migrants to settle in Fort St. George Madras, because the latter were proficient in trade owing to their familiarity with the region and local vernacular. The Portuguese were already settled in the sixteenth century before the English arrived. They knew the local language and all usual ways of expediting business in the region; they were ideal supervisors, as soldiers, as translators, as brokers, in fact as intermediaries for all the range of activities that are useful in establishing and operating a fortified trading post in the midst of a strange landscape. They were indispensible for the newly arrived English Company to establish a trading post. The English skilfully took advantage of these settlers that culminate as one of the success to foothold as a major competitor post in the century to come.

Competency Based Education and Training: A Fresh Green Leaf from the Australian Context for TVET in Africa
Edwin Obwoge, Makworo
Education Management
Competence Based Training, TVET, Technical skills
The labour market in most developing countries in Africa has experienced challenges of qualified human resource to carry out their desired functions. The academic institutions are supposed to produce graduates who would readily fit into the job market. The TVET institutions were designed to produce graduates with technical skills to work in the industrial sector and other sectors of the economy in order to accelerate economic development. However there have been many complaints from many employers on non-competence of most TVET graduates and this has seriously incapacitated economic development in Africa. Many employers have to spend time retraining the TVET graduates which wastes time and resources that would have been used in production. This paper reviews literature on competence based education and training and draws important lessons for application, policy formulation and improvement in the African systems. Competency-based education could serve as a game changer in Technical and Vocational Education, delivering high-quality education experiences that lead to demonstrated learning and mastery at an affordable price.

Ma, Juan
Language Studies
China, core competencies of English subject, interpretation, senior high English book, reading
The proposal of core competencies of English subject conforms to the goal for talent training, which puts forward higher requirements for English teaching. The core competencies of English subject include language ability, learning ability, thinking quality and cultural awareness. It emphasizes the development of students' core competencies, the cultivation of students' correct values and attitudes, and the realization of the educational value of English subject. Interpretation of the core competencies of English subject helps teachers to grasp teaching better and deeply, which will be useful for teachers to clearly apply the theories into teaching design, so as to achieve the purpose of educating people in English subject. This article interprets the core competencies of English subject in China and explains the meaning of related concepts: activity view on English learning and English subject ability. On this basis, this thesis will take a teaching design of a reading text in unit 5 in the 4th compulsory English book for senior high school students published by People’s Education Press as an example, to illustrate the realization of the core competencies of English as a subject in senior high school English reading teaching, which aims to provide enlightenment for teachers’ English reading teaching in senior high school in China.

Use of Corporal Punishment in Relation to Institutional and Personal Variables of Teachers
Garg, Mamta Rani
Education Management
Corporal Punishment, Personal Variables, Teaching Attitude
Corporal punishment is ingrained in schools worldwide as a normal disciplinary measure despite the legal ban on it in around 125 countries and India is one of these. Studies and media reports have shown a high prevalence rate (around 40% to 99.9%) across different parts of India. The unequal rate of punishment may be associated with school contexts. Therefore, it was intended to identify those institutional variables and teachers characteristics which determine the difference in the rate of use of corporal punishment. For this, data was collected from 202 teachers from 84 schools of Punjab. Results indicate that institutional variable such as school type, its location, organizational climate and personal variables of teachers, namely, their gender, marital status teaching experience, job satisfaction of teachers cause a difference in frequency of use of corporal punishment by teachers in schools. In this paper, the probable factors associated with these variables have also been explored.

Research and Practice on the Reform of Practical Teaching System in Translation for English Majors
Juan, Wang
Education Management
English translation, major practical teaching, innovation and entrepreneurship
The educational circles propose that we should attach importance to experimental teaching. As mentioned, we should fundamentally change the orthodox concept of experimental teaching depending on theoretical teaching, fully understand and implement the status of experimental teaching in school talent cultivating and form the idea and atmosphere overall coordination between theoretical teaching. The author attempts to optimize the course of English major translation so that the teaching content can be integrated into the whole practical teaching. Meanwhile, the practical teaching system should be reformed to break through the conventional teaching framework of practical teaching. What' more,we should vigorously carry out the second class activities and combine the practical teaching in translation and innovative practice implemented by the school with the tutor' studio. Also, in this process, we should pay attention to the cultivation of students' innovation ability so as to combine the practical teaching system with the translation theory course, which can enhance students' ability to combine the theory with practice.

Home Environment and Academic Self-Concept as Predictors of Career Maturity
Alam, Md. Mahmood

Home Environment, Academic Self- Concept, Career Maturity, Adolescents
The present study was conducted to investigate home environment and academic self- concept as predictors of career maturity among adolescents. Descriptive survey method of research was used for collecting the data using Home Environment Scale by Sarla Java and Academic Self Concept Scale (ASCS) by Reynolds et al. (1980). A representative sample of 400 (200 boys and 200 girls) Xth class students was drawn from schools located in the Hyderabad city using simple random sampling technique. Descriptive, correlational and inferential statistics were used to compute correlations and to compare the means between the groups. Findings of the study revealed that (1) there is significant relationship between home environment, academic self-concept and career maturity of students. (2) there is significant difference between boys & girls and rural & urban in respect of their home environment, academic self- concept and career maturity and (3) there is significant difference between rural and urban students in respect of their home environment and career maturity, however insignificant difference is found in case of rural and urban on the measure of academic self- concept. The above analysis suggests that career development of adolescents should be taken as a challenge not only by the adolescents themselves but also by educationists, psychologists and administrators to develop maturity in career decision and goal selection. They should be guided and trained to make congruence between career behaviour and his expected behaviour at that age. Lesser is the gap between the two greater is the maturity in the individuals’ career.

Gender, Education and Post-traumatic Stress Reactions
The study examined the influence of gender and level of education on Posttraumatic Stress Reactions of Victims of Cattle Rustling conflict. The study was guided by two objectives. The first one was to find out whether gender influences Posttraumatic Stress Reactions. 384 victims comprising 258 males (67.2%) and 126 females (32.8%) were studied. Descriptive survey design was employed in the conduct of the study. The instruments used to collect data were students’ demographic characteristics sheet and a 23-item Post-traumatic Stress Reaction Inventory DSM-5. T-test for independent samples and ANOVA were the statistical tools used to analyze data. Results revealed no significant influence of gender on Posttraumatic reactions of victims of cattle rustling in Zamfara state. In addition, lower level of literacy or its absence was found to elicit higher feelings of psychological reactions to traumatic events. Similarly, literacy level increases victims’ coping strategies in dealing with traumatic experience. Part of the recommendations is the need prompt treatment of both men and women equally by teaching ways to manage their fears, and anxiety. There is the need for stakeholders in education especially the school psychologists to create enabling environment which will instill and sustain adult desire for education.

awareness, academic accommodation, students at-risk
The pervasive problem that the Philippine education faces today is teaching students whose attempts at learning result in failure and eventually dropping out of school. This study attempted to identify students at-risk so that teachers may understand their needs and support them. This descriptive research determined the level of awareness of teachers of West Visayas State University-Janiuay Campus, Iloilo regarding students at-risk and their academic accommodation. This study attempted to determine whether the level of awareness of teachers regarding student at-risk affects their accommodation practices they provide. The respondents of the study were the twenty four (24) first year advisers selected through total enumeration of the population. The study showed that when taken as an entire group and when grouped according to various categories, teachers’ level of awareness of student at-risk was fairly aware. Only teachers who master’s degree holders were very aware and with master’s units were less aware. On the other hand, the level of awareness of teachers on academic accommodation of students at-risk were consistently very aware when taken as an entire group and when grouped according to various categories. Only male teachers and teachers of the schools of Hotel and Services Technology and Industrial Technology were extremely aware.Generally, the most frequently used accommodation practices of teachers while dealing with students at-risk was management followed by assessment and instruction. Another topic featured in the literature includes discussion of the risk factors that act as antecedents to at-risk and the legal foundation of the study.

Construct Women’s Subjectivity during the Quest-Gender Writing in Pynchon’s The Crying of Lot 49

Literature Studies
Thomas Pynchon; The Crying of Lot 49; Women’s Subjectivity
Since its publication in 1966, Pynchon’s The Crying of Lot 49 has aroused widespread concerns and discussions in both China and abroad. This book being regarded as the pioneer work of the post-modernism and masterpiece of black humour, relevant research serves to figure out its post-modern features from uncertainty, entropy, linguistic games to narrative traps. The present study is concerned about politics, history, law, religion, race, and racial oppression contained in the novel, as well as the author’s innovation of the quest mode, while ignoring how the heroine Oedipa strove to construct her subjectivity during her quest for the secret of Tristero System. This paper will focus on gender writing in The Crying of Lot 49 with the assistance of feminist criticism, Jacques Lacan’s psychological analysis as well as the concept of cultural hegemony by Antonio Gramsci, which together point out that the main achievement of Oedipa’s seemingly absurd quest is to break away from the constraints of patriarchy and gradually construct her own subjectivity as a woman.

This study examines grammatical cohesion in teacher trainees’ argument essay. Twenty scripts of teacher trainees’ argument essay were purposely selected from a total of hundred essays which were assessed by two inter-raters and used as data for the study. The study basically applied a qualitative method of analysis to the data. The theoretical framework that underpins the study is Halliday and Hasan’s (1976) influential theory of cohesion in English. Three major findings were made. First, teacher trainees frequently use reference and conjunctions to achieve coherence in their argument essay. Second, a good quality essay cannot be judged on the number of cohesive markers present, linguistic features such as grammatical rules of concord and verb tense are equally important. The study further showed that the least used cohesive devices are substitution and ellipsis. The findings of this study have implications for pedagogy and further research.

Skill gap; Industry Institute Interaction; Industry linkages
“Education is the process of facilitating learning or the process of acquiring knowledge, skills and attitude. Education enlightens the people and empowers them towards many issues. An institute is a place where the student is equipped with all the required skills to face the external world. But in the present days there is a wide gap between the needs of the industry and the employability skills of graduates coming out of various professional colleges. Only 3.84% of engineering students are possessing employability skills and there is no much difference in the other courses. Thus there is a need for industry institute interaction to bridge the gap. This interaction should help the institutes to develop professionals and the industry should get the required personnel.

Challenges Facing the Implementation of SMASSE’S ASEI/PDSI Approaches in Teaching
Kiige, James Mwangi
Education Management
SMASSE, Challenges, Implementation, INSET, Mathematics, Chemistry, Teacher training
Kenya, like most other developing countries, is beginning to address a wide range of problems with the heightened concern for the role played by In-service Education and Training (INSET) in improving the quality of education. Opportunities for learning through in-serving training continue to open up for teachers, a fact that has seen the initiation of programmes such as Strengthening Mathematics and Science in Secondary Education (SMASSE). SMASSE utilizes two approaches to teaching; Activity, Student-centred, Experiment, Improvisation (ASEI) and Plan, Do, See, Improve (PDSI). This paper is an instrumental guide into government decisions on the SMASSE project which has so far highlighted many challenges being faced both by the teachers and the students in the implementation process. This study proposes from the point of implementers and consumers, ways to counter the challenges. This implies that the areas of weaknesses can then be addressed. The study used a total of sixteen schools selected through stratified random sampling. The study gathered both qualitative and quantitative data which was analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software, Registered R and Excel. Findings are presented in tables using percentages, frequency distribution and means. A number of challenges in the implementation of SMASSE were identified. These included inadequate time, de-motivated teachers and students’ indiscipline among others. The study concludes that though SMASSE INSET does not show an impact on the performance of mathematics and chemistry, it has influenced the teachers’ ability to deliver in their teaching amidst various challenges. The author thus recommends that future SMASSE programmes should have a bottom-up approach to enable full ownership by stakeholders.

Transitivity Analysis in Academic Writing: A Case Study of Feminist, Female, Feminine
Chen, Yahua
Literature Studies
transitivity system, academic discourse, The Feminist Reader, femininity
As one of the metafunctions in Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL), experiential meaning plays a vital role in interpreting texts. The transitivity system identifies the experiential meaning and captures how reality is construed by manifold linguistics choices. Despite the widespread application of Holliday’s transitivity system, academic discourse receives far less attention than it deserves. In response, the study is set to analyze an extracted passage from the academic essay The Feminist Reader and to reveal the author’s underlying ideology of feminism by using the transitivity system as a theoretical framework. Among the six processes outlined in the framework, the study discovers that relational processes highly dominate writing, distantly followed by material, while verbal and mental processes respectively come third. Moreover, it is the genre and register of academic writing and the author’s writing intentions that contribute to different proportions of processes. In addition to exploring those hidden reasons, it is admitted that the transitivity choices the author makes are covert manifestations of her perspective on femininity.

Mirror of Lear: A Comparative Study of The Fool in King Lear and The Gravedigger’s Boy in Lear

adaptation of King Lear, small role, the mirror of Lear, fool
Adaptations of Shakespeare’s King Lear have always been extensively explored, especially Edward Bond’s Lear. Many researchers about Lear focus on its rewriting of the political and social themes, however, they seldom of them paid attention to the small roles in the two works. Although scholars such as Michael Patterson once mentioned Bond’s rewriting of Shakespeare’s original characters, they focused on the lack of perfect characters such as Cordelia and did not make a detailed comparative study of small roles such as the Fool in King Lear and gravedigger’s boy in Lear. This paper aims to analyze small roles in the two dramas, especially the fool in Shakespeare’s King Lear and the Gravedigger’s Boy in Bond’s Lear, and explore Bond’s rewriting of Shakespeare’s image of these two small roles.

While a few specialists — like troublesome development master Clayton Christensen—trust that new advances will significantly change instructive models, others are taking a more wary position, contending that the approach of radio or TV had raised comparable hypotheses. The jury is still out. In the interim, we can recognize channels through which new innovations can enhance instruction frameworks. The OECD report Students, Computers and Learning: Making the Connection has hosed eagerness in a few quarters. It found that PC use in school was not methodicallly connected with enhanced learning results in OECD nations, and one key message is that availability and instructive programming supplement direction when pedagogical methodologies and instructors as of now advance understudy drove learning and encourage basic considering.

Attitude, Environmental ethics, Anthropocentrism, Eco-centrism, Bio-centrism
The aim of the study is to assess the attitude of teachers towards environmental ethics and to develop ethics in them in case of lack of concern towards it. After reviewing so many relevant literatures the investigators considered the three dimensions of environmental ethics i.e., anthropocentrism, eco-centrism and bio-centrism and constructed 84 items based on these dimensions. Investigators consulted 15 experts from various educational and environmental fields for the content and face validity of scale. After expert judgment, 19 items were rejected for overall ambiguities while 65 items were selected for preliminary try-out of the scale over 100 teachers selected through Simple Random sampling technique. Final draft of the scale with 54 items was administered over 300 teachers both from eastern and western Uttar Pradesh. After final item analysis of Environmental Ethics Attitude Scale, 46 items were retained on the basis of the t-value, which was found significant (0.05 level of significance). Out of these 46 items, 34 are positive and 12 are negative statements. The reliability of the tool was 0.836 by Alpha Cronbach to check internal consistency of the tool and by Split Half Test was 0.734.

A Review of India’s Foreign Trade with reference to Post RBI Road MAP 2005 and Financing by Foreign Banks (FB) during the period 2003 -2013

Foreign Trade, Indian GDP, FTP, FDI in India, Exim Policy
Transactions related to global trade flows have significantly improved at present, on account of the internationalization and highly developed e-commerce. Exports and imports opportunities have substantially increased so also risk associated with international trade has reached a high level. Along with issues related to languages used for communication involved in international marketing, drafting of letter of intent / purchase order, drafting of letter of credit, financing during execution of purchase order, pre and post shipment inspection and finally negotiation of bank documents for collection of payments, the international trade was always been quite risky. This risk is because of the fact that exporters and importers are from different countries, separated not only by physical distance but by socio political conditions. Actual trade flows determines quantum of foreign trade. Foreign trade divided by GDP is a good measure of improvement or growth in foreign trade. (Harrison 1996). There is a positive relationship between Foreign Trade well supported by domestic as well as foreign banks and economic growth (Edwards 1992).Mixed results are obtained during the study related to explanation of the causal relationship between the degree of openness of the economy and economic growth. This paper takes a review of India’s Foreign Trade with reference to post RBI Road Map 2005 and financing by Foreign Banks (FB) during the period 2003-2013.

Framework for Identifying Research Gaps for Future Academic Research
Chand, Ragneel
Education Management
Research Gaps, Citation analysis, Content analysis, Systematic analysis, Meta-analysis, Systematic analysis
Wang, Wang, Chen, and Yang (2016) defined research gaps as a region where the ability to infer a particular question is constrained by a lack of knowledge. It is an area where the methods and insufficient research data have limited the capacity to get to a fully reliable judgment on a research subject. Therefore, academics need to situate their objectives in the research gap of the subject field. Particularly research gaps are those research questions that have not been addressed properly beforehand. This not only indicates the study's relevancy but also the considerable contribution it could bring to the field of study (Issah, Hamza, & Prosper, 2022). According to Ajemba and Arene (2022) posing questions and finding new research areas based on previous studies are the first steps in doing research. The limitations of the study's design, the use of inadequate instruments, or other factors that the researcher could or could not control led to the development of a research gap. For new and inexperienced researchers, it might be challenging to explore the research gap due to a limited amount of criteria or established methodologies, making research gap analysis confusing and equivocal. For example, if the researcher is investigating a broad region and then going to pick a more specific field might contribute to the description of a statement of the problem. This study's goal is to offer a methodology for determining research gaps. It will make recommendations based on each aspect of the research gap analysis framework.

This study explores the affinal (marriage kinship) relations and terminologies in Arab culture ethnosemantically. The affinal kinship terminologies represent the second basic taxonomy of kinship relations in every culture. The study includes a qualitative analysis by adopting the ethnosemantic or Cultural Domain Analysis (CDA) approach to fulfil the aims of this study. This approach helps researchers to identify and discuss the main terminologies of affinal kinship domain used in Arab culture. The study is based on data collected from the Holy Quran and some Arabic philology books. The study of this social domain in Arab culture is very useful to perceive and transfer people’s culture to other communities. Moreover, recognizing and understanding certain culture’s domains and norms may help people from other cultures avoid miscommunication or misunderstanding of other’s cultures and help use the suitable items based on certain contexts. The findings of this study emphasised the importance of studying this domain as a socio-cultural phenomenon that may help distinguish the main terminologies of marriage relations in Arab culture.

Darwin's book, On the Origin of Species met quick prominence. It sold so well that the distributers attempted a second printing a negligible month after the first. Nonetheless, the thoughts contained in Origin were not quickly acknowledged. This divergence emerged in substantial part on account of the straightforward actuality that the world had not yet found hereditary qualities. Darwin's hypothesis laid incredibly on the suspicion of the legacy of qualities, yet nobody at the time knew how such legacy occurred. The circumstance changed in the mid 1900's with the conception of the field of hereditary qualities. Proof from this field and others joined with Darwin's system framed the advanced hypothesis of development, called the present day blend. Here, we will examine the fundamental purposes of the present day amalgamation. Proof from exploratory hereditary qualities, scientific displaying of populaces, direct perception of regular populaces, and investigation of the fossil record every single made commitment to the current union. We will likewise analyze the instrument of normal determination as it can now be comprehended from the angle of hereditary qualities. We will perceive how transformation offers ascend to new alleles, which might then pass on more prominent wellness to people bearing them, and accordingly be spread all through a populace.

Research on English Teachers’ Training of Primary and Secondary School in Villages-Based on the National Training Program

National Training Program; trainee teachers; post-internship
The aim of the “National Training Program for Primary and Secondary School Teachers” is to promote the balanced development of compulsory education and the reform of basic education. But according to the training status of our school, I find that there are lots of significant problems directly influencing training targets during the implementation of the program. Therefore, in my opinion, to put this program into effect better and actualize the pragmaticality of teachers' training, we need to improve training modes and enhance the relevance and pragamaticality of the training content. The key solution of this program is taking teachers' training as a continuous and organic procession. Only through this way can we gradually enhance the comprehensive qualities of in-service teachers.

MGNREGA, Rural Employment Guarantee, Welfare Schemes
Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme is one of the most important and largest public programme in India. The main objective of this programme is to provide 100 days of assured employment to rural household and to create sustainable asset. In this paper we have studied the secondary objective of MGNREGA that is to reduce migration and creation of sustainable asset in light of tribal perspective. In this paper we work in migration data for July 2007 to June 2008 NSSO & Census of India, 2011 data. By our analysis we find that Migration is a complex process, it is not always done due to poverty and desperate situation, but complex factors (facilities, education). People especially tribals are migrating due to lack of adequate agricultural land, inadequate agricultural production, less irrigation facilities, and acute water scarcity and stringent enforcement of Forest Laws before implantation of Forest Act. At the macro level analysis, correlation between migration and MGNREGA is very weak. From the literature as well as supported by the micro-assessment, MGNREGA is helping poor and weaker section of the community by providing employment at critical period of a year (seasonal migration). In principal, MGNREGA can help to reduce temporary migration but is ineffective in long period, when several factors would change together.

Dialect Programs Language Maintenance Advantages and Disadvantages Value
This paper analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of dialect programs in TV media, and explores how they can contribute to the preservation and protection of local language and culture. It argues that dialect programs have unique benefits in highlighting cultural diversity and maintaining linguistic heritage, but also face challenges in terms of language norms, intercultural integration, and media functions. It suggests that relevant departments and media workers should improve the supervision, management, innovation, and rationalization of dialect programs, and follow the basic principles of local language and culture promotion and protection. It concludes that dialect programs are an important medium for disseminating and safeguarding local language and culture, and should be given more attention and support in the process of language maintenance.
